5 New Habits You Can Develop Right Now for Better Health

When it was first announced that we would be shutting down the country it was thought to be for approximately two weeks. For most people this could have been seen as an unplanned stay at home vacation. Now we are over two months in lockdown. So looking back we can see if we took advantage of this time at home by developing new and healthy habits. As the country slowly opens up again there are ways that are very simple but will keep you healthier both mentally and physically to start practicing.

You should or will need to start going to bed at a regular time to get your 7-9 hours of sleep. Your body requires this time to heal and repair anything that is going on inside you. Plus the benefit of regular sleep means that you are more alert to do other productive things. You can also give yourself permission for an occasional afternoon nap. There are many countries where this is practiced and has many benefits to a person’s mental and physical well-being.

First thing in the morning when you get out of bed do a little stretching to wake up the body. Then take some deep breaths. Hold it in and slowly release. You should find that you will feel more positive and energized.

Getting into the habit of more regular sleep will give you the energy to start a little fitness routine. This could be a walk around the block a couple of times a day and building from there. Some people find mediating early in the morning helps them to relief stress. Even meditating 5 to 10 minutes a day will help set your day in a more positive way.

Since most people have reduced the number of times they go to the grocery store, meal planning can be very important. Why not get in the habit of eating in a healthier way most days of the week. Have only one or two days as treat days where you indulge a little. Life is about balance and moderation.

As a final habit you can start today, is to use some of your free time to take some online courses. Learning something new keeps your mind sharp. Taking courses to improve your skills at work or to change your career eventually could help increase the money you make so you have more for retirement.

There are many healthy habits you can start or develop into stronger habits that will benefit you. You have to make sure that during this time and moving forward into a new normal that you have not developed bad habits that will jeopardize your life and your health. If so, you will have to look for ways to undo these bad habits. Replace bad habits with good habits. You know deep down what’s good for you and your family. As a recap, get proper sleep, exercise, meditate, eat healthier and continue learning new things. Remember what is easy to do is also easy not to do. Keep healthy and safe.
